Curraghmore
Renewable Energy Project
Welcome to our project’s website
Empower Renewables are currently exploring the potential for a renewable energy project in the townlands of Curraghmore, Garrandarragh, Ballykenna, Ballyshane, Ballyvool, Bohilla and Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny, approximately 3km southwest of Inistioge and 10km northeast of Mullinavat. This website will provide accurate and up to date project information as the potential project’s design evolves.
We are committed to developing responsible renewable energy projects in a way that is good for us, good for Ireland and good for the communities local to our projects. We acknowledge this can be challenging. Therefore, we commit to managing the future design and development of this potential project in a responsible and collaborative way. We have started our project’s community engagement process prior to beginning the detailed environmental report writing and engineering assessments.
We design all our project’s community engagement campaigns this way so meaningful conversations can be cultivated with any interested stakeholders at a time before the detailed project design and project layout is advanced. This seems the best way in which a locally sustainable renewable energy project can be realised and help to deliver Ireland’s 2030 energy targets.
The Study Area selection and design process for any renewable energy project is lengthy and iterative and the project team will work at length to design any potential future project at Curraghmore, incorporating local community opinion.
Early assessments indicated that this general area has capacity, in principle, for a renewable energy project pending further study. Constraints such as setback distance to housing, designated environmental areas, cultural heritage, existing grid infrastructure, hydrological and ecological features are initially assessed. Also, the renewable resource on the Study Area is also considered. This leads to a potential Buildable Area for a renewable energy project within which a project design can progress.
Latest Update
Proposed Curraghmore Renewable Energy Project In-Person Community Hall Event
Join us at our upcoming Community Hall Event to learn more about the proposed renewable energy project and meet the project team.
4pm - 8pm, Thursday 26th March 2026 Cois Abhann, Church St. Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny.
The event will provide an opportunity to view detailed project information, including plans and visual materials that show how the design is progressing. Members of the project team will be available throughout the evening to answer questions and speak directly with interested stakeholders about any aspect of the proposal.
In addition to our public community consultation event, we are offering a dedicated opportunity for local groups, societies, or businesses to meet with the project team in pre-registered time slots on Wednesday the 25th March 2026 at Cois Abhann, Church St. Inistioge, Co.Kilkenny.
Any local group, society or business that wishes to take part is welcome to register for a time slot here: Proposed Curraghmore Renewable Energy Project .
Registration will close on Monday the 23rd of March 2026 at 4pm. If the 25th of March does not suit, then we can arrange for a follow-on conversation at a time/date that could suit better.
